Van-Far High School will be conducting Senior Recognition at halftime of the home football game against Montgomery County tomorrow night. We will be recognizing seniors active in Football, Cheer, Band, Trap, and Cross Country. We ask that all parents be ready to line up at the end of the football field with 2 minutes left in the half. Notice of Annual Public Meetings
All meetings will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in the elementary cafeteria.
A meeting conducted by Van-Far School District will take place in the Van-Far Elementary Cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the district's plan for providing special education services to student's with disabilities who attend private schools and or home schooled within the district for the 2020-2021 school year. If you are the parent of a home-schooled or private schooled student who has been or may be identified with a disability and you reside within the boundaries of the Van-Far School District, you are urged to attend. PUBLIC NOTICE
All responsible public agencies are required to locate, evaluate, and identify children with disabilities who are under the jurisdiction of the agency, regardless of the severity of the disability, including children attending private schools, children who live outside the district but are attending a private school with the district, highly mobile children, such as migrant and homeless children, children who are wards of the state, and children who are suspected of having a disability and in need of special education even though they are advancing from grade to grade. The Van-Far R-I School District assures that it will provide a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) to all eligible children with disabilities between the ages of 3 and 21 under its jurisdiction. Disabilities include autism, deaf/blindness, emotional disorder, hearing impairment and deafness, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairments, specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, visual impairment/blindness and young child with a developmental delay.
The Van-Far R-I School District assures that it will provide information and referral services necessary to assist the State in the implementation of early intervention services for infants and toddlers eligible for the Missouri First Steps program.
The Van-Far R-1 School District assures that personally identifiable information collected, used, or maintained by the agency for the purposes of identification, evaluation, placement or provision of FAPE of children with disabilities may be inspected and/or reviewed by their parents/guardians. Parents/guardians may request amendment to the educational record if the parent/guardian believes the record is inaccurate, misleading, or violates the privacy or other rights of their child. Parents have the right to file complaints with the U.S. Department of Education or the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education concerning alleged failures by the district to meet the requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
The Van-Far R-I School District has developed a Local Compliance Plan for the implementation of State Regulations for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This plan contains the agency’s policies and procedures regarding storage, disclosure to third parties, retention and destruction of personally identifiable information and the agency’s assurances that services are provided in compliance with the General Education Provision Act (GEPA). Today VFE participated in the Great ShakeOut, a day to prepare and practice what to do in an earthquake; Drop, Cover, Hold On. Discuss with your child procedures they would follow at home in case of an earthquake. For additional information and resources, check out www.ShakeOut.org
This week is National School Lunch Week. We are promoting the importance of eating a nutritious lunch each day with a variety of foods from each of the food groups. Van-Far Elementary serves anywhere from 180-200 lunches each day. For breakfast, we serve an average of 125 student each day. Third Graders read Creepy Pair of Underwear! by Aaron Reynolds last week. They wrote stories about creepy underwear and designed their own pair of creepy underwear. If you haven’t read this book you will want to check it out! There are several read alouds on YouTube.

Our monthly PTO meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 6, at 6:00 in the elementary cafeteria. The first part of the meeting Deputy Burson, SRO, will be presenting on apps that children are using and parents should be familiar with and also tips for a safe and fun Halloween. The second half of the meeting will consist of our business meeting and finalizing plans for Thursday’s event. We hope you can join us!

Van-Far PTO would like to invite you to a night of fun. We are hosting a Family Reading Race event on Thursday, October 8th from 5:00-7:30 pm. This event will be a little different than the events we have had in the past. Due to COVID-19 and other factors, we are asking for each family who plans on attending to sign up for a time that best works for you to arrive. There is limited space! Two families will be going at the same time in ten minute intervals. Please indicate your first, second, and third time preference and we will do our best to accommodate you! When the event gets closer, we will send out an email indicating which time was chosen for you. Please do your best to be there at the time given. If you do not show up at the time that is indicated, you may not be able to participate.
What is this event you ask? This event is a mixture between a scavenger hunt and the Amazing Race. Upon arrival, 2-3 families will enter the school and begin their first task. At the end of each task, you will receive a clue. Classrooms will be labeled around the school with the answer to each clue. You enter the room, complete the task(s) at your child's age level. There is a total of 10 tasks. After you complete the race, we will log your time, and Friday morning the winners will be announced and given their prize! Each task is reading-related and lots of fun!

First Quarter Midterm reports were emailed to parents today for grades 1-6. If you didn’t receive the electronic copy call the office Tuesday. PreK & Kindergarten midterms were sent home with your child. Review midterms and contact your child’s teacher if you have questions.
Today is National Custodial Worker Appreciation Day. We are very appreciative and thankful for our custodians at the elementary, Alissa and Larry, who work hard to keep our building running. Most of the time their work is “behind the scenes” to make sure our building set up, cleaned, and disinfected so it is ready for students and staff every day.
