Joe Schmitz of Consolidated Electric presented to 8th graders on how to be more efficient when using electronics, as well as the cost of many appliances within their homes. Additionally, he discussed the different types of resources used to make electricity.

Ayla Kampeter Junior, has been selected to attend the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State, which will take place next June at Lindenwood University, St. Charles. The Chamber of Commerce President Charla Smith presented Ayla with her registration fee. Girls State delegates are a diverse group of young women with a shared desire to learn and lead. ALA Girls State "citizens" come together from small towns, big cities, and rural areas to hold ALA Girls State elections, and their varied backgrounds set the stage for a week for spirited, experiential learning.
Ashton Dyke will be presented with his check for Boys State by John Weiser, treasurer Vandalia Rotary Club. The American Legion Boys State will coincide with Girls State next June at Lindenwood University. Boys State is an 8 day leadership program where students learn the operation and fundamentals of government and is Missouri's premiere youth leadership development organization.

We use a program called iReady that allows students to test in reading and math and then complete lessons at their level of need to better themselves. Today, Miss Taelyn Ward completed ALL of the iReady lessons! ALL of them! Way to go, Taelyn!

This year our students have the opportunity to earn gift certificates to local businesses for good attendance. Students with 95% or higher attendance have two chances to win and those with 90% or higher attendance have one chance to win. The Daughters of the American Revolution hosted the Patriots' Pen Writing Contest with our 8th graders. The following students were recognized for their efforts: 1st Place: Austin Beshears, 2nd Place: Emily Smith, 3rd Place: Taelyn Ward, Honorable Mention: Bryanna Stanich, Madison Shelton, and Brandon Singer. FCCLA is holding a Parent's Day Out on December 16th at the Van-Far High School for students pre-k through 10 years of age. Forms will be sent home with students at the elementary so be look out if you are interested in this!

Our Mexico Leader Student Athletes of the Month are Madison Landis and Bryleigh Teague. Madison is an 8th grader and Bryleigh is a Junior. Both represent us as cheerleaders for both football and basketball. We are thankful for their cheerful spirits not only during athletic contests, but also inside of the classroom! Thank you for representing us, ladies!
A busy week in Van-Far Athletics. Varsity Girls and Boys will be playing the week in Centralia at the Centralia Tournamnet. Junior High will start their last full week of games as their season is quickly coming to an end. We wish all athletes luck this week! Let's Go Indians!
