IN SEARCH OF BEEF - MO Beef for MO Kids is a joint program of the Missouri Department of Agriculture, Missouri Beef Industry Council, and OPAA Food Service to increase the amount of Missouri raised beef on school lunch menus. Fewer beef meals are being served in schools across America, which means children are missing out on the protein power and nutritional benefits of beef. The purpose of this program is to connect local schools with area cattle producers to donate beef product to be used in the school lunch program.
We are currently seeking area cattle farmers who would like to donate beef to our school. A tax credit is available for your donation. Ideal weight for processing cattle would be around 1500 pounds. We need 4 donors to provide us with beef for this school year. Our next date of processing is scheduled for October 5 at Center Locker. If you are interested in donating or are wanting more information about this program, please contact Bryan Evans.
A special thank you goes out to Tony Dameron for donating to this program to start off the 2020-2021 school year! We still need YOU! MO Beef for MO Kids!
Our Parents As Teachers (PAT) program is seeking parents of children pre-natal to kindergarten entry residing in the Van-Far School District to participate in our program. Our program services include: home visits, group connection meetings, screenings, and a network of resources. We have several THANK YOU’S to make for the Wi-Fi service set up for our students around town. First a huge THANK YOU to Alan Luelf, Tony Rowan, and Jeff Carlyle at ALSAT Wireless for providing and setting up wireless access to all of our students at these sites. THANK YOU to all of the local businesses allowing us to use their locations to provide Wi-Fi service to our students: Beinhoff Funeral and Spare Time Bowling Alley. Also a THANK YOU to the City of Vandalia and Farber for assisting with the locations, boom trucks, and setting up electrical service. THANK YOU to the Audrain County Library. THANK YOU to Tony Lower, Wes Rowden, Melissa Gooch, Becky McCurdy, and Dillion Minor for all of the ground work here on campus. There have been a lot of man hours put into this project to make this happen. We are so blessed to have a supportive community dedicated to the education of our students!
All Wi-Fi access points around town are up and active. Students can connect at those locations with their school devices. We called everyone that we had notification on yesterday who does not have internet access to do their assignments online. If we have missed someone, please call the high school office and let us know.
Reminder the following Wi-Fi locations are:
Farber Library, South School, Pool park, Bowling Alley, Beinhoff Funeral Home, Uptown on the square across from Dr. Cole's office, the Elementary west parking lot, and the high school parking lot by the library.
The following post is how we will proceed for the next 2 weeks until we return on September 10th All activities and practices are cancelled on campus until we return. An email will be sent out with a video recording providing our parents and students with information by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. This video will inform all how and where they will log in to receive instruction and materials. This video will also be posted to our website. We will be doing live Zoom sessions with our students during normal school hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Your teachers will be sending your student invitations to join those meetings through Schoology and/or your emails. This will be a time where your student will receive live instruction and be able to engage in question/answer sessions. Teachers are available through phone calls, emails, or zooms Tuesday through Friday. It is important for your student to be checking their email accounts and Schoology routinely to stay updated on when assignments are due. Assignments will be taken for a grade. If it is not completed, it will be a zero. If you are having issues, you will need to communicate that with your teacher.
If you are a family that does not currently have internet connectivity, we will be making calls tomorrow to provide options on how to best get your student information needed.
We will have 7 locations around town where your student can connect their school devices. They are not currently active, but we will let you know as soon as they are available. They are located at the Farber library, South School, Bowling Alley, Beinhoff Funeral home, on the square across from Dr. Cole’s office, the Elementary west parking lot, and the high school parking lot by the library.
We understand this is not an ideal situation for our students or staff. To make sure everyone is on the same page, we had a student with a positive test who is asymptomatic. With guidance from the health department, we had to contract trace all of the students and staff that could be potentially impacted, and that number was substantial enough, it was in our students and staff’ best interest to go virtual.
We are here to assist in any way and look forward to September 10th when we get to be with our students again. Please feel free to call if you have any questions.
